World's first global plastic pollution treaty

World's first global plastic pollution treaty

March 14, 2022

Earlier this month, the United Nations announced that it had approved a landmark decision to create the world’s first global plastic pollution treaty.

The broad mandate aims to target plastic pollution in all its forms, including microplastics. The treaty also looks to restrict the use of plastic production, ultimately affecting companies that make raw plastic as well as consumer goods giants that sell thousands of products in single-use packaging. The legally binding plastic pollution treaty is due to be finalised by 2024.

We’re thrilled to see that world leaders are taking this significant environmental crisis seriously, and we can’t wait to see the treaty being implemented in future to protect our beautiful planet.
