Ten simple, effective and eco-friendly Spring Cleaning tips you need to try this season!

1. Make a list

If the thought of spring cleaning your whole house has you panicked, try making a list! Start by listing each room in your home and jot down specific cleaning tasks to be completed in each area. Think about the things and spaces that do not get cleaned regularly. Like, when was the last time you wiped down your skirting boards?! If you want to make your life a whole lot easier, download our handy Spring Clean Checklist.

2. Declutter your home first

Channel your inner Marie Kondo and remove any unnecessary clutter from your home. Go through your junk drawers, the garage — anywhere where you might have accumulated clutter. And if you do need to get rid of some things, do not just throw them away! Trying selling the items online (think Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree) — another person’s trash is another person’s treasure. The best part about decluttering? The less you have, the less there is to clean!

3. Cleaning products

If you are doing a deep clean and want to do it more sustainably and healthily, chances are you will need effective, eco-friendly, and zero-waste cleaning products to get the job done. You are in the right place, my friend! Our Full House Kit has everything you need to clean your home from top to bottom. If you are already using Pleasant State products, firstly, go you! Secondly, check your bottles — is it time to refill? If you need more of our refill bars you can purchase them on our online store. If you are all sorted, do not forget to dissolve the bars the night before. That way it is ready to go the next day!

4. Invest in a microfibre towel

Microfibre is a favourite for eco-friendly and chemical-free cleaning, and there is a good reason why. Microfibre towels (or cloths) can pick up dirt, dust, bacteria, grease and liquids. The way it works is that the fibres contain both positive and negative charged fibres that attract and pull up whatever is on the surface that you are cleaning. How good is science?!

To make the most of your microfibre towel, use only one section of the towel at a time. We recommend folding the towel in half and then half again, giving you eight surfaces for cleaning (four on each side). Microfibre towels can be used damp or dry — either way should work fine.

Make sure to wash the microfibre towel in a bag that prevents any microplastics you may have picked up from entering our oceans and waterways.

Our Multi-Purpose Towel is a great all-rounder and can be used on any surface. It also has a scrubby corner to tackle stubborn messes — win!

5. Work from top to bottom

For fast and efficient cleaning, start from the top and work your way down to the bottom. Cleaning this way means that you will not have to re-clean any areas. Start by dusting or vacuuming your ceiling and fans and finish with cleaning the floor.

6. Do not forget to clean the outside

Don't just spring clean the inside of your home — the outside needs some loving too! You could weed the garden, clean out the roof, or wipe down the windows — it is up to you! Trust us: it is better to do the cleaning now rather than in the middle of Summer.

7. Clean your windows on a cloudy day

Wait for a cloudy day before cleaning your windows. Cleaning them in direct sunlight causes the glass to dry too quickly, leaving behind streaks. When you are ready to get that no-streak glass that you have been dreaming of, use our Stay Glassy Glass and Window Kit for guaranteed streak-free results!

8. Air out the house

To freshen up your home and improve air quality, leave all the windows in the house open for a few hours — this will release all the stale air from winter. Avoid using artificial scents and candles to make your house smell better. Trust us: fresh air is best.

9. Phone a friend

Cut the cleaning time in half and enlist your partner/sibling/children/friend to help you! You will probably need an extra set of hands if you are doing a deep clean — do not lift that couch all by yourself! If your cleaning buddy is reluctant to help, try throwing in a reward to motivate them. Chocolate anyone?

10. Make it fun

Let's face it, most of us would rather be outside enjoying the sunshine than inside cleaning the house. Try and think of some ways to make mundane tasks more enjoyable. You could listen to a podcast while you clean or turn it into a workout! You do you.
