There's been a lot of talk on social media about Chobani facing a class action lawsuit in the U.S. over claims that some of its yoghurts labelled “only natural ingredients” allegedly contain phthalates, chemicals linked to hormone disruption and reproductive issues.
While it looks like this case will be dismissed, it’s a wake-up call for all of us. Because it’s a reminder that it's not just about what’s in your food, it’s what it touches.
Phthalates are used to make plastics soft and flexible. They’re everywhere, in food packaging, plastic cleaning bottles, and even jar seals. Over time, they can leach into food, especially when exposed to heat or fats (like yoghurt).
Independent testing has found phthalates in nearly every food category, even organic ones. Why? Because contamination often happens after production, through packaging or processing.
So even when you think you’re buying clean, plastics can sneak in.
At Pleasant State, this story hits home. Our whole mission is to cut the crap, not just from the ingredients we use, but from the materials that hold them. That’s why we made a conscious choice to use glass bottles.
✨ They’re endlessly reusable
✨ They don’t leach chemicals
✨ And they help reduce the hidden toxins that come from everyday plastics
Because if you’re working hard to reduce toxins in your home, you shouldn’t have to worry about what’s leaching out of the bottle.
The Chobani case isn’t about one yoghurt brand, it’s about a system that prioritises convenience over transparency. But change happens when we start asking better questions:
✨What’s my food or cleaner stored in?
✨What’s it made of?
✨And who’s doing it differently?
We believe “clean living” shouldn’t just look good, it should be good, for your body and the planet.
That’s why our bottles are glass, our refills are packaged in a home compostable laminate, and our commitment to transparency goes beyond a label.
Because when it comes to your health and your home, it’s not just what’s inside that matters. It’s what it touches, too.
